Sudden snow

The covered bridge in Woodstock.

Last night brought us a surprise: Fresh snow! And a wonderful day, walking the town and the small hills around into a snowy land, covered with a fresh sheet of white! The snowflakes were dancing around us and we delighted in the beauty of it!
This was yesterday:

And this is today:

And a few more impressions from this lovely place!

See the bride through the window? A winter wedding, today was the perfect day for it. I saw her in the hotel this morning!

What can one do when not skiing? Looking at fun places, having some tea, shopping for cheese and checking out those design stores...
And looking at some wonderful artwork capturing the Vermont winter perfectly!

And then there is the local psychologist...

Tomorrow we are coming home! We recharged our batteries and now feel ready for the coming weeks ahead!

Driving by

I love taking pictures from the car. Of course not when I am driving... always safe in the passenger seat...
I love the blurry images, the passing light, the unexpected views.

As an artist I see them as graphic images.

I feel I collect realities.

Slivers of existence.

The reality turns into a new dimension. Timeless.

There is such beauty in the simple colors of the approaching night sky!

When now turns into something else!

Loving Vermont

There is simply nothing sweeter then to arrive at a beloved place, familiar surroundings and finding everything as before and at a first glance improved and more beautiful then ever!

A few days of skiing, walking and exploring the winter paths...and enjoying time together!

Greetings from this winter wonder land!

Little messengers

There's close to two feet of snow in my front garden. Just two days ago there were snow drops pushing up out of the ice. I wonder what causes them to bloom in February. I wonder if it's their genetic coding, or their biological purpose. Or perhaps, it's just because we need them?

Happy weekend!

Sheets of ice

The magical look of the ice glazed trees in the garden...

Reminds me of laces and dresses, glittering and sparkling...

Frills on white sheets and chandeliers dripping with crystals...

The fringes of ice are crowns turned up side down...

Borrowed from the ice queen!

What I am reading now

I had written this post only a few days ago and send out on my House and Living part of the blog. I realize more and more that this blog part has become the "forgotten garden"... Since I feel this is such a wonderful book I decided to re-post it today. Now I can report that I have finished it and it held me captive until the very last minute!
I wish somebody would take on the task to make a movie out of it!

Lately, with winter upon us I love to read more and hang out next to the fire place, after all the day's work is done.
I can hear my daughter singing upstairs, my son playing guitar and my husband still working next door on his computer. The dog cozies up next to me, expecting a neck rub and perhaps a treat and then I curl up on the couch and open my book! Heavenly moment! Well, until the familiar Maamaaa! call is heard from upstairs....

Last year I had read Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden and when The Distant Hours came out a couple of month ago I could not wait to find the right moment to begin with it! The immensely gifted young writer, Kate Morton, a native Australian, lives in Brisbane with her family.
Her first book The House at Riverton is still on my list. I like to tease myself...Another long winter is ahead!

So that's where I am now: An old English castle, family secrets and a young heroine, a wonderful recipe for a tale which has me in it's grip way later then my usual bedtime....I have been captured by the castle...
I found Kate Morton's website and check out this fabulous trailer to her new book!

So if you are in with me for a mystery with all the trimmings, go ahead, find a reading nook, get comfortable and open the first page!
